It's been awhile..

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated this journal! Changes in work, a wedding and other things have forced me to change the way I work. I have a few more commissions I'm finishing up over the next couple of months, and then I'm taking a break from commissions while I decide upon a new plan of attack. I will most likely be doing more ready made pieces to sell, and only take on one or two commissions a month at most. I just don't like waiting lists - even though people are okay with waiting, it makes me feel bad that they are!

So firstly, for all the bjd owners on my flist, I have been making some casual items in a range of sizes, from Super Gem to Zaoll to YoSD sizes. My DoA thread is here.

For everyone else, this is what I've been up to for the past year. Amongst working on commissions I got married, and I had a moment of crazy and made my wedding dress, my husband's coat and shirt, and my bridesmaid's outfit. Under the cut are some pics, as well as finished commissions. :)

And the backs of out outfits. My outfit was a top and skirt made from silk dupion, cotton velvet and embroidered tulle. I had made a corset to wear underneath to get the Victorian sillhouette I wanted.

Wow, its been six months since I posted an update last, I've been that busy. I have a heap of past commissions and other personal sewing pieces to post up, and these aren't all of them! My apologies for the image heavy post!

White cotton kimono top with red pleated satin trim on the collar, and red satin ribbon on sleeves. Red cotton pleated skirt made to resemble hakama, and a red cotton obi.

Tunic and scarf are made from an actual Sari. Pants made from cotton dril, with hand painted pattern on the hem to match tunic. The doll is an Elfdoll Ryung.

Presenting the first item of Dorset's basic line:

Basic Net Petticoat- $50USD
The petticoat is made of two layers of netting, with lace on the bottom edge of the outer layer. These are attached to a sturdy cotton drill underlayer, which protects your legs (and your modesty!)

She provided the printed fabric, and I bought the lace and white cotton fabric.

The collar, sleeves and fabric bows are all detachable. The top can be made looser or tighter with the lacing at the front.

My lolita wardrobe

Here are some examples of lolita clothing I have made for myself:

White Broderie Anglaise peterpan collar blouse with pintuck detailing on both front and back. This blouse is my basic lolita blouse and gets washed and worn quite often. I made it a year ago and it is still in great condition.

Mint green Broderie Anglaise princess line skirt with strawberries and flowers printed on the fabric. It has a pink broderie anglaise ruffle, and pink eyelet lace trim. Mint green ribbon runs through the lace and bows made of the same ribbon are placed evenly around the skirt.

Black cotton twill princess line JSK with braid trim and ruffle. The ruffle is of a "button print" fabric. This dress is worn at least once a fortnight and has washed and worn well. I made it about a year ago.

Black and silver striped silk Pirate Loli skirt. A high waisted, princess line skirt with a pleated ruffle and both lace and braid trimming.

Flamingo costume commissioned for the Volks Halloween dollpa in LA. The doll is a Volks SD13 Lady Sylvie

bankevair wearing a Boz replica skirt she commissioned, and dorset's own Simone wearing her carousel skirt. The Boz skirt is actually two skirts: a white circle skirt; with a black underbust corset attached to an overskirt with a ruffled hem.
The carousel skirt is a skirt of red and ivory panels, with carousel horses and poles appliqued onto the ivory panels. I still have enough fabric left to make two more carousel skirts.

A little about me.....

Welcome to the selling journal of Dorset, a company specialising in Corsetry, Costumes, Lolita clothing and clothing for Ball Jointed Dolls.
The company is run by a seamstress, Simone, who has been trained in patternmaking, dressmaking, tailoring, corsetry and millinery. Simone has completed a Diploma of Costume at Swinburne TAFE, Prahran.
Simone has made Circus costumes for the National Institute of Circus Arts, Hats for "Sink or Swinburne" (a production as part of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games), and done maintenance and repairs for Melbourne Opera on their production of "Don Giovanni". She is also a cosplayer, having made a number of cosplay costumes for herself and her friends.
